In case you don’t know, Appalachian State is located in Boone, NC. The Mountaineers average attendance last
season would have ranked second in the Sun Belt and they have invested $50
million into facility improvements in 2009. The Mountaineers are 85-24 over the
past eight seasons and the Mountaineers are 207-83 in its football program,
history. Appalachian State’s football is
lead by head coach Jerry Moore.
Appalachian State has made it known that they are ready
to move up to the next level in college football. It is known that Appalachian
State is currently seeking a home in the FBS.
After making the announcement to move up to Division 1
football, now the question is
which conference they would call home. Appalachian State has recently stated that they were in active talks with Conference USA, however that league has since added Old Dominion who they were pursuing to make their league a 14 member league. Now does that push Appalachian State out of the picture of Conference USA, maybe and maybe not? Because it is known that Conference USA desire is to be a super conference one day and adding two more teams would get them there. However Appalachian State may now have to pursue the Sun Belt, if Conference USA has closed its doors to conference expansion.
