Graham Wilbert seems to have some competition
for the starting quarterback position at Florida Atlantic during preseason
camp. However Wilbert doesn’t want to be out done on the field.

FAU
senior quarterback Graham Wilbert admits that speed isn't one of his best
attributes, so with the Owls heading to a new spread offense in 2012, Wilbert
spent his summer developing the running portion of his game.
Wilbert
found out in spring practices that offensive coordinator Brian Wright likes his
quarterbacks to run the ball, a responsibility that the California native
hasn't had to worry about in his time with the Owls.
"That
was my biggest weakness and I definitely improved it over the summer,"
Wilbert said of his running game.
The
6'6, 225 pound pocket passer wouldn't say how much time he trimmed off
his five-second-plus 40-yard dash over the summer, but early in practices,
Wilbert's claims look substantiated, as he's run the ball with purpose and
success.
The
FAU quarterback position is wide open, but as of now, with Melvin German's
eligibility still in question, Wilbert, the returning starter, likely has the
inside edge on the position.
"The
guy who takes care of the ball the best and makes the best decisions quickly
and can make the plays — that's going to be the guy," Wright said.
"We've had all kinds of styles [in the offense]. We've had six-five guys,
six-foot guys, fast guys, guys who weren't as fast."
