The
end of the first week of preseason practice for the UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns
featured a single 150-minute practice on Wednesday followed by a lot of
meetings and an early evening walk through, allowing the UL players to absorb
all that they have learned over the first seven days.
Hudspeth was happy with the competition level in the practice.

“I
challenged our offense at the end of practice yesterday because they weren’t
taking control. Today, they came out right away and dominated in our
first down scrimmage. That was a great sign,” Hudspeth said.

The
defense wasn’t happy when Hudspeth questioned them about the unit’s performance
in the scrimmage. “When the offense took control, I pointed it out to the
defense and they responded. In the third down scrimmage, it was the
defense that took over. Our guys love competition so anytime it is one
group against another or one player vs. another, we elevate our play.
That is a great sign,” Hudspeth added.
The morning practice featured another preseason first as the end of practice scrimmage utilized game officials for the first time and lessons were definitely learned.

Good
news came for the Ragins Cajuns on two fronts on Wednesday. The NCAA has
granted the eligibility appeal of freshman safety T.J. Worthy, who transferred
to UL-Lafayette last spring from Ole Miss. Worthy will go right into the mix
for playing time at safety, a position where the Cajuns are looking for depth.“We
are very glad that it worked out for T.J. He’s had a great first week of
practice and I think that he will now be able to impact our play this year,”
Hudspeth said. . .
